Smacko Jan 14 2006, 12:15 PM Game: South Park X-Men Creator: Beamer Genre: Fighting Description: Battle your way through five different stages, against five different mutated South Park opponents. Rating: 45% Review: Most fighting games in the South Park community lack alot of interest and wont be played too many times once downloaded, this game isn't really an exception. This is one of Beamers early games which mostly reflects on the graphics and gameplay. The storyline reflects on the X-MEN charatcers Wolverine(Kenny), Cyclops(Stan), Magneto(Kyle), Storm(Wendy) and Rogue(Bebe). Kenny, Stan, Kyle, Wendy and Bebe mutate for some apparent reason and decide to kill each other using the special abilities that they have received from their mutation. The game consists of five stages that gradually get harder as you progress into the game. The attacks you can do in this game are simply punching, kicking and your mutation special ability. The attacks you will be mostly using is the puncing and kicking ability which is easily done by pressing ctrl and shift. As your punching and kicking the opponent your special meter will be slowly filling up, once it is full you can execute your mutant ability by simply pressing the space bar. These arn't too difficult to forget as they are on the keys which are most recognisably used in the South Park games we play today. The special attacks include Wolverine Kenny's Healing ability, Cyclops Stan's laser eye, Magneto Kyle's ability to throw a piece of bent metal, Storm Wendy's ability to use her storm powers and Rogue Bebe's ability to steal health off the other opponent. No games are perfect when it comes to South park games. South Park X-MEN has a couple of downsides and flaws which make the game a frustrating one at times. One of the downsides is the shortness of the game. You can finish this game under a five minute period. This is a big let down as you wont want to play the game much because of its repetitive nature. In many of the early click games if there was too much action in one scene, the game will freeze up and would only work if you hold down a button. In this game, this will regularly happen which would make the gaming expirence a very unpleasent one. A good feature to the game would be the ability to save and load your progress at the main menu. This allows you to keep track of how many times you have finished the game but due to it's repetitive nature this feature will only be good if you want to unlock hidden feaures in the game. finish the game ten times to unlock a secret in the game. Subwoofer and his sprites are used in alot of the South Park games we know today. Beamer has used Subwoofers sprites in this game and did a good job in editing them to look like X-MEN characters. The downside with the graphics would defidently have to be the background of each stage. They look very simple and not visually appealing. This is a downside as visually appealing games let the person playing know that the creator has put the effort in to make the game look good and presentable to fit the scene. Another thing I didn't like was the fact that there was no cut scenes. Without them makes South Park X-MEN look very dull indeed. I thought the music and sound effects were good and fit the scene of each level. there was really no problems in the music department except in the first stage were you verse Wolverine kenny, the music used was quite annoying but apart from that, all was good. The sound effects fit each character well, except when the game freezes, the sound effects tend to repeat itself over and over again which will leave you annoyed. Beamer is a talented game maker and has won the title "Best South Park Gamer of all time". Don't let this game discourage you from other Beamer games as it was one of his early games. Although this game gets old really fast, it is really repetitive and freezes up alot, the game is playable but I advise you to steer clear from this game and download some of Beamers better games that are out there.
